Hank McGill spent his entire life making people happy; Today, through no fault of his own, he is making people sad by taking his final bow. For over six years he has battled inoperable esophageal cancer battling it with chemotherapy and radiation, beating it back year after year and even spending two years cancer-free. Born Bruce Pelkin, but making people laugh on comedy stages all over the country as Hank McGill, he now rests in his Speedway home waiting for the final curtain.
But the out-pouring of Love from fellow comedians and friends in the form of letters, cards, and phone calls have demanded a proper send-off for this “Tonight Show” veteran that has made millions and millions of people laugh during his lifetime. On September 5, 2010 at ComedySportz Indianapolis. Doors will open at 6:30 pm with a 7:00 pm showtime when “The Hank McGill Farewell Tour” will begin.
The show will consist of a video tribute with fun Hank moments, a live auction, a Hank set, friends and comedians, both local and national, bidding him Farewell, with Hank watching from his home via the internet. Cameras will roll and a Limited Edition DVD will be produced that will include: A Limited Edition DVD including the taping of the show and other Hank bits, plus the feature-film “Open Mic’rs” which has never been available on DVD and in which Hank foreshadowed his own final days. All sales of the DVD, the admissions, and the auction will go towards paying Hank’s funeral expenses. Monetary donations, auction items and gift certificates for dinners and services are being sought.
If you’ve been to an Indy comedy club in the last 20 years, chances are you enjoyed Hank’s performance. Please join in telling how much he has been appreciated, both on and off the stage; Few left Hank’s presence without a smile on their face and “The Hank McGill Farewell Tour” promises to be the ultimate after(life) party, celebrating the life and laughs of a true original and one of Indy’s favorite sons.
“I’m Hank McGill. I call myself Lil, but everyone knows me as Nancy. I was driving in the car the other day and my friend looked over and said, ‘You’re goin’ 80.’……I said, ‘So are you.’” –Hank McGill

Jarrod says:
Hank is a mensch. I had no idea he was ill, but I will do what I can to make this event a success. I had the honor of watching Hank perform many times and saw him on the big screen with some of my CSZ friends in Open Mic’ rs, too.
